Chromophore Development as Photocathodes for Small Molecule Reduction

Charge transfer from the light absorber to the catalyst is one of the most significant points of inefficiency in solar to hydrogen devices. My work looks at how to design and synthesize a chromophore that not only efficiently absorbs light but also prolongs the lifetime of the separated electron/hole pair through charge separation. By increasing the lifetime of excitons, we prolong the ability to use the excited electron to facilitate subsequent chemical reactions such as hydrogen evolution.
